Mr. and Mrs. Anderson have lived in the Atlanta area for quite some time — enough to see major life milestones come and go. Along with those good memories comes wear and tear on the hardwood floors of their home, including a major leak in the home’s downstairs bathroom. In September 2017, the Andersons considered the state of their flooring and the leak damage; at 14 years old, the floors had seen more than their share of shoes and everyday life. However, the insurance adjuster’s restoration crew didn’t see up to the task of repairing the leak damage. The Anderson’s thought bigger, and felt it was time to consider something new.

Problem

The Andersons decided that they wanted to redo the entire lower level of their home in addition to the damaged bathroom floor. This meant five rooms, two hallways, and two closets. As it stood, the old floors had seen significant amounts of foot traffic, and this wear created gaps and spaces in some areas. In addition, the inlay had begun to fade in various areas. The Andersons had a distinct color tone that they knew they wanted to use in this restoration project, and they had set their internal budget and, as floor restoration involves significant preparation for the home regarding furniture and belongings, a rough timeline in which they wanted to execute.

Solution

Through the Better Business Bureau, the Andersons got the number of Professional Installed Floors. They visited the Marietta showroom and spoke with Lee and the Professional Installed Floors team to look over their options and detail the colors, budget, and feel they desired. Lee provided the Andersons with several color samples to help them get a better sense of what was possible; the Andersons took three home and examined them. After that, they made a final selection and decided to move forward with the project. This involved patching the damaged area of the downstairs bathroom, sanding the existing wood, then staining it English Chestnut. After that, three coats of polyurethane were applied, along with installing a new quarter round.

Results

The project completed on time and on budget. Despite the volume of work, everything was accomplished while protecting the upstairs from dust due to sanding the floors and moving the furniture out (a process handled by the Professional Installed Floors team). “Every crew member was professional and they handled the project we care,” says Bonita Anderson. “They went above and beyond our expectations.” Lee and the staff were even able to restore the Brazilian cherry border in the living room — something other contractors did not think was feasible. “We are thoroughly enjoying our new floors. We love the vibrant color and finish. No one could have done a better job.”

When asked to sum up her thoughts on the Professional Installed Floors experience, Mrs. Anderson put it succinctly… “In one word ‘awesome.‘“
