What is a dustless sanding process?

The good news is that hardwood floors last for years, sometimes even up to 100. That means replacement isn’t often necessary, because refinishing will restore their luster.

The bad news is all the powder it creates.

Unique Flooring Solutions has been in business for almost 20 years. You’ll notice that the word "unique" is in our company name because we strive to make every remodel a special, positive and easy experience for all our customers.

We’re a provider of dustless sanding. Grinding and buffing is an important part of refinishing but, as you know, it can create a mess. Our solution is to use the dustless process.

Even before we go to a potential customer’s home for an estimate, we meet with them first to explain every step of the process and address all of their concerns and challenges. We want them to be as knowledgeable as possible so there are no surprises.

Visit our showroom in Jeffersontown, KY and be sure to ask about our free estimates. We also service Louisville, Crestwood, Goshen, Prospect, Jeffersonville KY and Clarksville IN.

What does it mean when sanding is dustless?

If you find yourself using mats or area rugs to cover up the many scratches on your hardwood floors, or if you see fading or black spots, you’ll need sanding as part of the refinishing service.

Up until recently, that created enormous amounts of dust, but with a relatively new dustless process, we can eliminate 99% of it. need sanding as part of the refinishing service.

Here’s how it works: There’s a machine attached to the sander that has a vacuum tube that sends it into a containment system, rather than letting the particles just fly around the room. I sort of liken it to a wet/dry vacuum that soaks up the water and sends it into a separate compartment.

Advantages

The process:
  • Improves indoor air quality. Sanding and refinishing can create dust that circulates in the air, exacerbating allergies and asthma.
  • Keeps floors smooth. When refinishing, it’s important to be sure each coat of stain or finish is thoroughly dry before applying the next one. While it is drying, however, sand particles can get in and give the floor a rough, bumpy texture. The dustless sanding procedure keeps that from happening.
  • Easier cleaning. The machine does it all for you!
