What about water damage?
Solid hardwood can warp and cup when exposed to liquid.
If a flood or leak occurs, remove any nearby wet items, including rugs and towels. Use humidifiers, fans and, weather permitting, open windows.
Disinfect the flooring. Don't ignore this step; standing water harbors bacteria that not only harms your floors but also your health.
Water can, however, hide under planks. It’s not always possible to get it all so if you have any concerns, call our company and speak to a retailer.
There's another hardwood, engineered, where only the construction is different, Nothing else changes. Engineered is a little more stable and can handle moisture better but, like most anything, it shouldn't be submerged in puddles. If you have a big flood, follow the same steps as you would for solid hardwood.

Everyday care
- Vacuum hardwood floors several times a week, daily if possible. Please be sure to remove beater bars (rotating brushes) as they can scratch. Soil and dirt also scratch so this is an important step.
- Damp-mop (make sure it's very well-wrung) with a manufacturer-approved cleaner periodically
- Strategically put mats in front of sinks or near entrances so people can wipe their feet and not drag in soil and moisture
- Avoid wearing stilettos on the floor and keep pet nails trimmed.
- Use protective pads on furniture when moving.
